My intent is to provide these KID’S CLUB units to Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Hospital staff on a gratis basis (no cost to them). If KID’S CLUB units are wanted in these institutions, myself or the chairperson of this project will solicit funding by contacting local Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, or Shriners Club membership for sponsorship.
I just know that there are lots of other introverts like me, who need to fulfill their social interaction needs, but in a non threatening way. Since the age of thirteen, I have met this need in an exciting, challenging, loads of fun, historic, self esteem building way!
I am sure that there may be care-givers who, for any reason, are “closed minded” and are not able to “think outside the box”. They may give the excuse for not considering KID’S CLUB that taking home the units may expose the young patients to nosocomial infections.
I would state this:
a. each parent would sign a “release of liability” form prior to taking home a KID’S CLUB unit
b. each unit will be disinfected as well as is possible with current technology after it is returned to the hospital staff.
c. “Pet therapy” is a standard part of several in -patient pediatric treatments. Pet therapy may have the inherent risks related to the fact that pets cannot be disinfected. The benefits of pet therapy out-weigh the risks.
d. There are inherent risks associated with almost anything in life. After the patient goes home, his/her surroundings and movements cannot be totally “sanitized”, i.e. he/she may check out library books, which are not sterilized, he/she may eat a hamburger, which has not been sterilized by irradiation, he/she may play with the family pet, which has not been disinfected, etc.
e. The large private home health rental businesses develop their businesses from rental and reuse of medical supplies by patients. The “loan” of “KID’S CLUB” units could be placed in this same category. I suppose hospital staff could charge a rental fee for these units. Personally, I hope that their desire is to act as medical “libraries” and loan out the units after they have received the unit deposit from a parent.
f. The amateur radio receiver in the unit contains software to allow remote control of the receiver. Hands free operation of the unit by the patient is possible if the parent or sibling controls the operation of the receiver via a remote computer.
